Painel de Azulejos

  Associada à arquitetura, duas formas artísticas se distinguem em Lisboa: a talha dourada, de que não temos exemplos neste Palácio, e o azulejo. A sua função começa por ser a de nobilitar alçados e espaços internos de reduzida qualidade arquitetónica mas o seu interesse vai além desta dependência. Talha dourada e azulejo participam no programa estético com um poder de encenação impressionante. Apesar de o azulejo ser conhecido desde os tempos da Mesopotâmia, ele foi trazido para a Península Ibérica aquando da ocupação árabe do século XVIII; no entanto, esta arte ganhará especial relevo nos séculos XVII e XVIII. Em antigas igrejas conventuais, no interior de palácios ou nos seus jardins, a arte da azulejaria ganha um cunho espetacular e um discurso maioritariamente profano – padrões florais, paisagens, a azul e branco ou já com tonalidades multicolores, as paredes revestidas a azulejo marcam em definitivo a decoração de interiores barroca portuguesa.

  Na adaptação do Palácio Ludovice para hotel de charme, houve um enorme cuidado pela preservação do património arquitetónico original do edifício; os azulejos encontrados foram retirados, limpos, catalogados, restaurados e reaplicados, sendo o painel junto ao Restaurante a junção dos azulejos imperfeitos – que faz uma perfeita obra de arte setecentista numa releitura contemporânea, porque neste Palácio História e Luxo, Passado e Presente unem-se numa simbiose única.
